The channel was launched on November 2, 1982 as a fourth television service in the United Kingdom along with BBC One, BBC Two and ITV. This channel as originally a subsidiary of the Independent Broadcasting Authority. The channel’s headquarters are located in Leeds. Channel 4 broadcasts shows from independent companies, which made them the first TV channel in the UK to do so on a large scale. During the late 90s, Channel 4 aired some of the most popular shows in the United States such as Friends or ER, which made their debut in the UK via this channel.
