StarTech.com PCI Express to PCI Adapter Card - PCIe to PCI Converter Adapter with Low Profile / Half-Height Bracket (PEX1PCI1)
About this deal
In recent years, the computing sector has undergone a transformation. Hard disk drives with terabytes of storage capacity were once the norm, but newer and more powerful storage devices, such as SSDs, have steadily taken over this space. When it comes to large storage areas, hard disks still reign supreme since high-capacity NVMe SSDs are still prohibitively expensive. The ever-increasing need for digital storage has made the limited connectivity provided by PC hardware manufacturers all the more pronounced. Single Queue Depth (QD) 4KB random read speeds are entirely unaffected, as the request can only be completed after the data has been sufficiently supplied; for there are no buffers or queues to shorten the process.

Zen 2 and Zen 3 Ryzen CPUs come with an identical amount of PCIe lanes (24); though four go toward the chipset. Tests carried out by TechPowerUp show us that an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 can be plugged into a PCIe Slot running at PCIe 4.0 x8 lanes and the difference in relative performance (to it running at x16) is about 1%.There has been a dimension shift in the computing industry in the last few years. Once hard disk drives with terabytes of space were the norm, newer and more advanced storage devices in the form of SSDs have gradually started to take over this space. Hard disks are still rampant when it comes to big storage spaces as the prices of high-capacity NVMe SSDs are still nowhere near affordable. In fact, with a four-way M.2 PCIe adapter – and its accompanying NVMe SSDs in RAID 10 mode – you can see more than double the performance of a standard NVMe drive. I bought an M.2 PCIe Adapter for NVMe and inserted the 2280 Sabrent drive into it. The speed went from approx. 500MB/s to over 3000 MB/s.

In fact, even in a PCIe Slot running at PCIe 3.0 x8 lanes, the divergence is only 3%. Similar discrepancies were found from Gamer’s Nexus benchmarks; which are minute enough to be considered within the margin of error. This adapter is only compatible with NVMe drives (M-Key) and does not require additional drivers for its installation. The heatsink is made of aluminum and a thermal pad is also included.
By using the PCIe slot, you then begin taking advantage of your CPU’s PCIe lanes, which are otherwise untapped. (You’ll have to utilize a PCIe-Slot that is hooked up to the CPU, usually the two topmost PCIe-Slots) Unfortunately most computer motherboard manufacturers seem to want to follow the rush twords new technology even when older technology still works fine. What i don't understand is why do computer motherboard manufactures even put PCI-e x1 card slots in their systems. At the moment, the only technology that uses PCI-e slots is either graphics cards, raid controllers, or USB2.0. As far as graphics cards go, the PCI-e x16 slot is a necessary advancement. However, no one buys raid controllers because most people who use it have raid chips inside their motherboards anyways, this goes the same with USB2.0. Yes it’ll work. You have a second pcie slot free which is fast enough for this add-in card. You might even have the top pcie slot free as well, depending on if you have a graphics card installed or are using the igpu.
