About this deal
I’m not sure I would have enjoyed the read as much had I been reading the book myself, and would have given it a 3 star rating. I love Rob and Josh, I listen to the podcast obsessively so the book was perfect for a fan like me! We had chapters from Rob and Josh in a conversational style, from their wives Lou and Rose, their parents and even their producer Michael!
The book dives into more of Rob and Josh's personal lives, into how they were parented and what their partner thinks about them. I always enjoyed the Parenting Hell podcast (before it moved to Spotify and I couldn’t bring myself to move all my podcast listening over to Spotify too). This book is in the same mould as the podcast. Lots of funny anecdotes about parenting and it was nice to hear from Lou and Rose too and see the other side of the parenting from Rob and Josh. Join Josh and Rob as they share the challenges and madness of their parenting journeys with lashings of empathy and extra helpings of laughs. Filled with all the things they never tell you at antenatal classes, Parenting Hell is a beguiling mixture of humour, rumination and conversation for prospective parents, new parents, old parents and never-to-be parents alike.I would give this book a 4 star review for the audio book version due to the interviews with parents, wives and Michael, plus the off the cuff remarks and larking about between Rob and Josh during the reading of the book. Being a parent is the most amazing thing, though it's nice to be able to joke about all the little bumps along the way. It tells the story of the end of an era, the last time when watching television was a shared experience for the family and the nation, before the internet meant everyone watched different things at different times on different devices, headphones on to make absolutely sure no one else could watch it with them.
That constant feeling of being tired and describing it as like jetlag all the time was brilliantly put.

This Has to be the audiobook. I’m a huge Parenting Hell podcast fan. I’ve heard every episode and watched it live in April. It’s an absolute treat for the ears via audiobook. I have no doubt the actual book would be fantastic however the audiobook is the only true way to experience this I feel. As mentioned, I'm a HUGE fan of the podcast. I love the honesty about the difficultly of parenting and keeping your entire life together as well as sharing the exciting and wholesome moments. Every parent or parent-to-be or parent-adjacent needs to read this! It's also surprisingly empowering for women - the way they include the wives perspectives is beautiful'
