Handmade in small batches in the Lake District, this particular flavoured vodka is inspired by a famous local confection – Kendal Mint Cake – a variety of peppermint tablet that seems to have originated in Kendal, Cumbria in 1880 and is still made there today by two of the original three manufacturers. Famous for being taken on the first ascent of Everest by Sir Edmund Hillary in 1953, it’s a bit of a local legend. So when a local publican discovered an ancient recipe for mint vodka in his loft he was determined to use it to share Kendal’s sugary speciality with the wider world. Created in 1990 from an original recipe, Kendal Mint Cake Liqueur is the brainchild of Mike Pennington, owner of Burgundys Wine Bar & Brewhouse in Kendal.
